Who Wrote This, Why Did They Write This, What Else Have They Written?

Bio:

This is the new website for author/visual artist/vocalist/researcher/gamer/comic book historian/military and Intelligence Agency UFO document historian/wild Southern Swamp Man-Frank Zero…or Frank Eros as he is known on social media. I see games with their lashing lights often played in dark rooms not unlike caves, ancient shamanic initiatory experiences, with only music and light to guide the initiate, as I note in my comic book, down and deeper into darkness. In this way games guide kids into simulated tests of strength and intelligence, allowing the type of artistic individualism and counterculture appeal that another medium that needed to be defended until finally it spoke for itself on the scholarly world stage, comic books, games offer a similar escape met with just as much outrage in their time thought to be gateways to violence and drug use comics didn't stand a chance until some brilliant minds namely Jack Kirby and later Gaiman Moore Miller and many others made comics eternal and brilliant respectable and worth study as an art form. The purpose of this project is to look into video games seriously, as deeply psychological, introspective, educational, and absolutely thoroughly artistic and otherwise creative collaborations that go into the making of every game for decades, has somehow not lead to the medium being taken seriously as any of these. A generation of people who preached T.V. would rot our minds, now sit before it unquestioning and being inducted into various political and worldview cults as they passively assume they are being fed the truth. Another generation has an appreciation for nature and our planet and our fellow human beings but find themselves bombarded by artificial stimulation currently via our phones, computers, tv, games, and the neon lit apocalypse we’ve swiftly mapped over the real and each hour we build machines which are better and better at simulating artificial realities which surround promptly drown and overwhelm the senses even when one wanders miles on foot, from large cities large groups of people or the general horizon of advertising strobing desires and demands simultaneously pummeling our subconscious with complete trash content without end. Sure, some commercials are funny or clever, rarely you may even be forced to watch an ad for something you actually need, but the majority of what we’re sucking in at faster and faster bandwith, through an increasingly vivid concert of LED glowing screens, should we for some reason attempt looking beyond the map, there’s a pop up for that, or there’s an app to add to the mountain range of informational sniping range from which shots are fired from the second we wake in the morning, to the moment we attempt lining up some final few minutes of entertainment or relaxation at night before bed, and this repeats. As synchronicities serve those who know how to see, like a kind of currency which piles onto our faith and curiosity all at once, those who use magick specify these mysteries and explore unseen realms with the same aim that a rather new video game genre recently emerging on the next gen systems, to map out one’s own inner feelings, personality, and much of the very meaning of life, through a kind of visually traversable psychoanalysis. This careful self examination has been practiced for years in the realms of ancient anthropology, astrology, alchemy, etc… Carl Jung was wise enough to not only examine himself with the same honesty and attention to detail, he would have applied to a serious patient. Joseph Campbell then took all these ideas from Jung’s insights on the psychology, and applied these methods of inner and outer observation to virtually every ancient and global religion, practice and ritual, most importantly for our purposes here, he was able to see uniting concepts, similar stories and identical archetypes at work in the ancient world. Western Esotericism and groups such as The Golden Dawn, OTO, practitioners of chaos magick, those left in touch with the beliefs of their ancestors, some aspects of what we refer to as New Age philosophy and practitioners, etc…all used these ideas from Jung and Campell, and thanks to Aleister Crowley’s secretary and author as well, occultist Israel Regardie, was able to take laborious notes on Crowley’s work, as well as Hebrew and Latin translations of all the above mythological and magickal curriculum. Magick, was and continues to be translated in all kind of picky ways depending on an individuals’ reading, geographically influenced spiritual ideas, etc… Essentially, magick is a collection of methods and practices or rituals, which aim to manipulate some aspect of reality in an attempt to align the newly formed reality with the will of the magician. It may have very different names, different beings or gods, angels, and demons or jinn, or may be geographically fairy tale inclusive like the Tuatha de danaan (The fae or fairies) etc…

Video Games are an attempt at manipulating reality with set conditions and rules like a practice microcosm for attempting magick in actual reality but also preparing us, perhaps numbing us to the multiple personality attention deficit compulsive addictiveness that technology cripples us while it allows us such magnificent achievements. It could be argued we haven’t been a necessarily healthy species altogether since the industrial revolution, since we started building a world on top of the reality, the natural. This distinction is important is understanding Baudrillard, Jim Powell, and others who have created defined and written extensively on the philosophy of Postemodernism. This train of thought supposes we have “mistaken the map for the territory” itself, that we have mass produced so many copies of a given thing, we actually have no experience with the real thing it represents. In other words, you may have spent months of your life devoting yourself to any and all experiences you can have on Hoth, Endor, or blowing up the death star, you can have all the action figures and know how to speak wookie, this IN NO WAY means you have been to Star Wars. You have never actually experienced a moment of Star Wars, but don’t tell the religious that in a rude or pushy manner, their heaven, hell, and God are all just some little man projecting his voice and filling the room with smoke, ya know that dude, he is the wizard. He’s even the “real” Wizard Of Oz, like George Lucas is the real Boba Fett, but people get really upset if they have entrenched beliefs, even if subconsciously they recognize they could be wrong, you could be right, I don’t think any of this matters though. You can practice anything you like, I’m gonna enjoy a good video game. As long as we aren’t attempting to outlaw each other’s preferred beliefs or lifestyle, we’re effectively genuinely experiencing a multiverse so vast you could change the whole ride just by digesting this book, or that movie, practicing a new prayer or ritual, etc…

I think these kind of conversation becomes more and more compelling as we approach so many technological breakthroughs, as society and it’s technological marvels exponentially head in opposing directions. As we rush toward quantum artificial intelligence, creating living machines, finally returning to our pursuits of the Moon and Mars. It is concerning that our society a few years ago seemed to be on one track, and yet again as our society laughs, at while being sure to utterly ignore, it’s conspiracy researchers, it’s no secret they told us the vaccines may be a problem, hell the biblical apocalypse obsessed Christians who habitually read the wrong or simply incorrect literature, THOSE PEOPLE tried to warn us of the RFID chip, the Mark Of The Beast, no one explained the Aeon Of Horus may not symbolize the idealist eternal sight and iron will of Horus himself, instead we’ve made every corner of our society feeling unjokingly identical to some version of a Black Mirror episode…with Snowden risking everything he literally can, just to tell us this surveillance hell is being run by all-seeing bad magicks and they command legions of yes men, all content with their condo in the pyramid, all compartmentalized through various levels of security clearance. Mix in a fleet of private military contractors and hired hit men we politely call private armies, security forces, and we pretend we weren’t questioning our own Army as to if they’d be okay with firing on American citizens.

Synchromysticism, as I’m the cartoon analyst guy from The Sync Book 2. I still run in sync circles and enjoy the work they all do.

Comic Books, history of, particular artists spotlights, relationship to the occult, focus on Vertigo (the alternative and indie DC Comics imprint run by the legendary Karen Berger and often bravely embraced controversial and taboo topics of the time such as psychedelics, the paranormal, alternative as well as gay and lesbian lifestyles, vampires, aliens, psychedelics, ritual magick of all kinds, fairy tales, and geographically based occult and paranormal phenomenon, time travel, secret societies, shamanism, and was led by flagship titles such as Neil Gaiman's Endless Universe, including Sandman and Death, Dream, Delirium, Destiny, etc...

These books in particular and so many others utilized the gothic mixed media revolution alongside the comic book mixed media revolution, one spearheaded by Vertigo altogether and a man who turns sculpture and dreamy photographic storytelling to a whole other level by himself by doing so many covers of the Vertigo universe by himself, Dave Mckean.
